Basically kids goes through various stages inlife as a young and it is indeed important that they being guided by the grown ups, especially by their parents.

However, kids have their own various personalities that they themselves dealt upon so it is important that they are being understood.

Dr. Lickona's big ideas on 'morality is respect' is one to ponder on. It is indeed true that kid develop morality slowly and in stages because they inherit the "idea" of what is moral and what is not through his/her environment.

Grown ups should teach them by example; teach by telling them; and kids should be train to take on real responsibilities - let them feel that they have a role to play, it's one way of letting them feel they are being relied upon; and that they are important.

It is necessary to let them feel that they are being trusted, it gives them more confidence. Confidence is a key to lead them live their life independently. However, the grown ups should also balance independence and control, they should always be at kids' side to guide them when they are off the track.

Emotional intelligence remains to be one ingredient to a quality living, may one be an adult or a kid. It is one of the basic need of a social being, but somehow people forget the significance of which in one's life.

Goleman's five basic principles in his book emotional intelligence is another key to successful parenting. He suggested that emotion should be maximize by parents in the most constructive ways, even focusing on such everyday issues such as sibling rivalry, fights with friends, school situations, homework, and peer pressure.

In the Daniel Goleman's extensive experience, he learned that children respond quickly to these strategies, their self-confidence is strengthened, their curiosity is piqued, and they learn to assert their independence while developing their ability to make responsible choices.

Indeed there are cases of having a "difficult child"; sometimes they just sprang up despite the love he/she gained from his/her family. Sometimes it is because there had been a lapse in process of raising these children. One instance, maybe parents somehow allow their kids to manipulate them rather than teaching them how to respond to life and life's tough situation. Parents cannot be completely blamed on this scenario, because sometimes, parents argued that they only want the best for their kids, so they give them too much love. But remember, sometimes too much of everything is bad. Everything should be under control.

Drs. Swihart and Cotter suggested a program that teaches parents to say no without feeling guilt; to resist the urge to feel responsible for their child's happiness; to view their children as emotionally competent and resilient; and most importantly, to realize that effective parenting means allowing your child to make mistakes and develop a sense of competence, which leads to enhanced self-esteem and an ability to live independently and successfully in the real world.

It's hard work to raise kids, but it's parent's work.

When one flips through the Yellow Pages, you'll find page after page of therapists and child treatment services offering to "help" troubled children and "treat" bad behavior. There is an increasingly aggressive advertisements featuring slogans and touching renderings of tearful children and adolescents bereft over their inability to succeed. The clear message is " If you even think there's something wrong with your kid - we can fix it."

Indeed, sometimes kids can have minor disorders, and such should be treated at once.

In Los Angeles, the competition between hospital based programs and out-patient therapy centers for business has become fierce and it is business. Clearly there are more private sector services available than are needed, even if such assertions are incorrect and practitioners are instead facing an inexplicable and unparalleled epidemic of behavioral illnesses of unknown origin.

It appears that in many cases, the concept of behavioral illness has arisen as the result of two major factors:

Multitudes of parents uneducated in child-rearing skills
Clever marketing by therapists and treatment centers.
If one takes a minute and think about it, everyone achieves immediate benefit from the concept of behavioral illness. If parents become convinced that some disorder is responsible for misconduct, they no longer have to assume the responsibility for correcting it.

Instead of being angry at their kids for misbehaving, they can feel sorry for them. Since it is human nature to feel terrible if you blame someone for something they can't help doing, parents then stop blaming their kids. Kids so excused receive increased freedom and control and have more fun. Therapists are then called in who make money. Since there is actually nothing wrong with their patients ( the children ), treatment goes on and on.

In the meantime the kids are free to and sometimes encouraged to misbehave. ( Some therapists believe that good therapy entails letting kids do anything they want to and observing the result ). Parents become more hesitant to make demands on their "sick" kids, so conduct deteriorates because kids are thus free to do increasingly more outrageous things in their relentless pursuit of a good time. When the therapists finally give up the kids get put into hospitals and other kinds of "inpatient" programs which then get to bill for their services.

Everybody wins in the short-term. Eventually, however, the money or the insurance run out. The kids return home. Their behavior is now really intolerable. Nobody likes them. City, County and State services become required. Police and juvenile officials get involved.

The kids eventually begin to suffer. And when they finally do they suffer the most.

They become known as " bad " kids by other parents, teachers and peers. They feel as though they are always " in trouble." School performance deteriorates until any efforts exerted academically seem to be a hopeless waste of time. The kids become depressed and despondent. They turn to drugs and peers and gangs in a desperate search for relief and understanding. Often, they wind up abandoned by parents, in juvenile hall or out on the streets. For many, crime or prostitution become essential forms of income. All too frequently they commit suicide.

This is every parent's nightmare. It's becoming a national crisis. The myth of behavioral illness is what, in the long run, turns the nightmare into reality. Let's dismantle the myth. Let's find some real answers. Kids should be taken seriously.

Listening is an ability that should always be applied when dealing with children, Thomas Gordon also asserts this in his book called Parent Effectiveness Training. He further explained how to talk to kids by reflecting back what they said to show you are listening to them. It is also important to make I-statements instead of giving orders because, this gives them a feeling of belongingness, that they are not being bossed around because they are loved.

Cliche as it seems, but in almost all studies - LOVE remains the key to dealing with various kind of individuals. Once you make them feel that "they matter" in the world - there is no way of alienating him/her in your world.

Kids are one of the most sensitive being on earth, they should be treated with care and respect. They are not mere kids, they are human beings with feelings. As early as childhood, parents should be careful in molding their sons and daughters because what they become is a reflection of the way their parents raised them.

Development with Equity

Inequality remains to be the biggest obstacle to the country’s development according to World Bank director for the Philippines Joachim Von Amsberg – thus we cannot say that the country has achieved Development with Equity.

Equity is defined in terms of two basic principles. The first is equal opportunities: that a person’s life achievements should be determined primarily by his or her talents and efforts, rather than by pre-determined circumstances such as race, gender, social or family background. The second principle is the avoidance of deprivation in outcomes, particularly in health, education and consumption level.

The world development report 2006 encapsulates the very situation of the Philippines – the rampant inequality in terms of income, assets and opportunities. Though the government is continuously creating jobs, yet, the qualified Filipino workers are still small thus leaving a greater number still unemployed.
The labor force population in January 2006 was registered at 35.2 million; this translates to a labor force participation rate (LFPR) of 63.8 percent. The total employment in January 2006 was 32.4 million, which results to national employment rate of 91.9 percent. Now the total unemployed persons numbered 2.8 million in January 2006, which translates to an unemployment rate of 8.1 percent. The incidence of underemployment went up to 21.3 percent in January 2006 from 16.1 percent a year ago.(NSCB).

In terms of income, even if there are about 63.8% unemployed Filipinos, they have meager income, not enough to sustain their needs. And because they have low income, they are remains unable to upgrade whatever assets they have, that is if they have one. It still remains that whoever has the resources, s/he is the one who can afford to acquire new assets, or properties that they can sell in times of need. Indeed it is difficult to attain development with equity in a country like our. However there’s a way to attain this.
In my point of view, maybe our country has to realign its priorities in terms of implementing economic and political reforms.
There is a great need for new policies that would address the country’s need to attain development with equity. The present government has to invest in people – this does not just mean about manpower or labor force, rather it includes especially the early childhood nutrition and development which translates to various issues – food security, sound population policy and better health services. Our country’s countryside still lacks hospitals, health workers, etc. Investment in people also includes quality education services – this does not just mean their college education but their early years in school because it is the basic foundation of every Filipino worker. The far flung areas of the countries still lack schools because the concentration remains in the center, there still are neglected areas and the government has to address this. Also it is important that the high school years until the college education are given utmost attention ensuring that the graduates are equipped with proper education and training in their field. It is a common reality that there maybe a hundred thousands graduates every year but not even 80% are hired because they fail to meet the standards of the company they are applying for even if it is in line with course. Also to consider providing safety nets to insure vulnerable groups from shocks especially because there are groups that needs such attention in cases of war, tragedies – since the country is infested with these kinds of atrocities and calamities; as well abuse cases on women and children.

There is also a need for expansion of access to justice, land, and economic infrastructure such as roads, power, water, sanitation and telecommunications – the basic infrastructures literally and figuratively. People need to be provided with proper justice thus, they should be taught with the law – they should know the law, to know their basic rights. They should also be provided with quality infrastructures not just a kind of road that needs to be repaired after months. The basic services for the people in the country should be good as well if not perfect.

Furthermore, there is also a need for a policy that promote fairness in financial, labor, and product markets, so that poor people have easier access to credit and jobs, and are not discriminated against in any market. In fairness to the present government, PGMA is extending her way to implement programs for poor people to have easier access to credit, but there is still a need for the more sound information dissemination among this group so they can avail of these opportunities and they should be taught as well how to manage it.
Equity in the international arena is also a central concern, and can play a powerful complementary role to domestic action. In a globally interconnected world, leveling the international playing fields, both economically and politically, will help domestic efforts to combine equity with efficiency and growth.

In my view, equity and economic efficiency as well as growth are complementary in the long run to reduce the poverty prevalence - together with the interdependence between the economic and political dimensions of development it also reinforces the importance of empowerment among people who resides in the country.

The country can still meet development with equity so long as the leaders aim for it and do the necessary policies to address the country’s problems not just their personal interests.

Join and Earn!

EARN AT PRIZELIVE!

Prize Live, a division of Day Online Solutions LLC, officially opened its doors on May 1, 2008 with its headquarters located in the Louisville, KY area.

Prize Live was created by a highly trained team bringing you great support and frequent updates.

Prize Live is a free membership survey site for people from all countries with most of its membership coming from United States, Australia, Canada, and United Kingdom. Civil disobedience has been used in nonviolent resistance movements in India in the fight against British colonialism, South Africa in the fight against apartheid, in the American Civil Rights Movement in the fight against segregation and disfranchisement, and Europe as well as in the Scandinavian resistance against Nazi occupation. Henry David Thoreau pioneered the modern theory behind this practice in his 1849 essay Civil Disobedience (available at Wikisource), originally titled "Resistance to Civil Government". The driving idea behind the essay was that of self-reliance, and how one is in morally good standing as long as they "get off another man's back"; so you don't have to physically fight the government, but you must not support it or have it support you (if you are against it). This essay has had a wide influence on many later practitioners of civil disobedience. In the essay, Thoreau explained his reasons for having refused to pay taxes as an act of protest against slavery and against the Mexican-American War.

Thoreau's central argument in his essay was “resist what your conscience can not support, even if you are in the minority.” As much as Thoreau detests the Mexican War and slavery, he always remembers his responsibility to himself. Thoreau's attitude toward reform involved his transcendental efforts to live a spiritually meaningful life in nature. He also tried setting up the reader to understand his own action of conscience. He also showed the typical Thoreauvian paradox, which seems to be logically contradictory, but is not, if one takes into account what he means by "gives himself."

It is important to consider why Thoreau chose to address this important issue as a question. His idea, I believe, is to push the reader to think for himself, consider the implications of everyday laws by which the general public abide. Thoreau would answer his own question by suggesting transgressing "them at once." He also underscored that there are men who have lost their manhood, according to Thoreau.

Thoreau's call for every man, even one man, to withdraw support from the government; a very transcendental philosophy is at work in this statement. Transcendentalists believe that there is no end to a question; the door can never be closed. In this way, one man who withdraws his support is the beginning of an endless cycle. This is Thoreau's call for every man, even one man, to withdraw support from the government. A very transcendental philosophy is at work in this statement. Transcendentalists believe that there is no end to a question; the door can never be closed. In this way, one man who withdraws his support is the beginning of an endless cycle.

Thoreau certainly believed this, and he used this essay as a chance to point out that he actually spent a night in prison in an effort to remain faithful to his conscience. He presented one solution to the problem which In fact, during the Vietnam War, there were a number of people who withheld their taxes, putting them aside into accounts which neither they nor the government could access, as a means of protest. These are powerful arguments for most. One reason that Thoreau chose to live as he did was so that he could be truly independent, not having a family which might be threatened when he acted on conscience. This is an important part of the great cost that one must pay to act according to conscience.

For Thoreau, truth is not always going to dictate the right path. It is not the main concern of truth to dictate the fairness of wrong doings. His final statements in the essay give Thoreau an opportunity to depict the "really free and enlightened state" that he imagines in the future. He goes on to say that he imagines a place where the individual and the state will be in mutual service. The individual will have power, rather than be dominated by the "overwhelming brute force of millions." The State will recognize the individual as a "higher and independent power (Wood).”

REFERENCES

Gandhi, Mohandas K. Satyagraha in South Africa. The walk took about 2 hours, and i had some "paltos" in my feet, evidence that it was a kind of difficult walk. When we reached the "holy ground," we rested for a while, and had a little chat.

10:00am Having been situated in the so-called "holy ground" i am hopeful that he is telling me tales of truth. he said that he has been "10 years" in service, and seldom goes home to his family due to the nature of his work. "to be discreet is a call of his profession" according to him, since he is soliciting confidential data for the government. he penetrates the lowliest and highest institution of the country just to get the information that his boss asked him to. and he uttered "its so damn difficult, my situation, right?" but i told him, "not really, its the call of your work, to be someone you are not, to be able to get the information you need. it may be unethical in the professional sense, but its part of your responsibility - and i do understand it." maybe, he was trying to solicit information from me as well, if he is accepted or what, i really don't know. judging by his background, i am also confused about his motives. after a while, we went to the another pool of people having the way of the cross, and we also went there, until the end where we entered the small cave and had a glimpse of real-life images of people when christ died and Jesus lying there. Up until the white cross that symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus (with image of Him also there). After a while, the experience for me was really a sigh of relief, i felt lighter and i found myself communicating with God, thanking Him of the instrument to have me brought to that place - even in the form of someone who is so full of lies in his life (because of his job).

to be continued....

sulit gimmick!!!

Sulit.com.ph: Buy and Sell Philippines is giving away a Sony Cybershot DSC-T20 digital camera and a Nokia 5700 cellphone for free. type='text'>napocor tower story

one of the dilemmas when you're in tv industry - news gathering in this respect, aside from being the first to know and broadcast it exclusively, is also being able to get good and action-packed video; but what if there's a life at stake? what are we going to do then? that was exactly what abs cbn got for the retarded kid story who went up the napocor tower in san jose, del monte, bulacan. they were the first to know and broadcast it - rich video of the lens waiting for some action to happen, may it be the kid to jump from the tower or fall from there; but then a twist came, some drunk barangay councilor fired a gun pointing to the "pasaway kid" who thinks that the kid should be shot since the kid is an abnormal.

but what really bothered me while i was watching their segment for that, how did even one member of the news team to do something considering the brgy councilor even went to the news team to announce that he's going to shoot the kid, how come he was not prevented from doing so? how come it lasted that long that people around there were not able to devise a way of saving the kid? i can imagine how long the lenses of the cameraman soaked itself long enough taking a video of kid while sitting on the rails, dancing on the tower, etc. does this mean that the scope of social responsibility of media does not include giving utmost importance on individual's?

on one hand, the parent's responsibility also should not be taken for granted here, considering the kid is mentally-challenged; they're also to blame for letting the kid out of their sight when they should have been giving utmost attention to the kids' needs. however, we cannot deny the fact that the coverage was foul.
<img width='1' height='1' how it all happened, what really happened, etc, and i was able to read them all. it was really disgusting and it violated the woman. the man was sick. because, he had let her do the unusual acts - those maniac masochist pig want to watch on porn dvds. yucky!!!

then, the woman held a presscon presenting her affidavit - i learned almost all media outfits covered the event but it did not come out to any of them. why?

i heard from one senior colleague that the woman has every opportunity to defend herself considering she holds a key and powerful position - but she did not. the woman reasoned out that, she had let it happen because she loves the sick man and 'she admires his intelligence' - ridiculous but maybe true.

apart from the emotional weakness that she manifested, i believe it's not fair to say that because she held such key position, or that she is a grown up career woman, she's no longer capable of being abused.

it is frustrating to know how the society treats this kind of issue.

to be continued..................

TAGGED

LET'S PLAY TAG!

Four jobs you have had in your life:
1. newsdesk administrator
2. writer/reporter for IT
3. technical writer/researcher for a women's NGO
4. scanned newspapers for the Jaime V. type='text'>continuation on da vinci code

there it goes, the priest who claimed to have read da vinci code is convinced that the movie is a threat to the catholic faith. however he also believed that 'da vinci code' is fiction, and yet he encourages all the people present at the mass that they should do something to fight this kind of challenge. he further suggest not to watch the movie by telling everyone that he himself will not watch it.

i am sadden how they imposed their views on people as if their views is the ultimate truth. i believe that people can make up their own mind and a mere movie will not tarnish one's faith that one grows up with all his/her life.

i just wonder what other members of the church is type='text'>scholarship in call center - from dean dela paz's column

i came across dela paz's column last april 27 in businessworld. somehow at one point or another, i seem to agree with dela paz's argument about how the government has been putting great emphasis in the call center industry - even giving support in programs that will enhance the student's, more so, worker's telemaketing abilities. thus, deteriorating their abilities on more important, relevant subject that would not only guarantee them with better career but sustainable one, that will not just answer to immediate needs. but then again, the government is more focus on such kind of solution - what the government pushes are the immediate yet not a sustainable solution to the needs of the people - which is also a practical way of easing the problem but not necessarily eradicating it.

we would understand why this kind of response to arising problem, time runs so fast nowadays that the what seems to be important is to give immediate solution to the problem. but they don't realize how much burden that the people are about to face in the future - what if this industry is no longer in boom? where would this speaking- american/british english- accent agent will go. will they be inept to lead the country? will they be able to provide solution to the deteriorating infrastructures? will they be able to heal the sick? will they stay there answering calls or marketing products they have not even touched and tried?

of course, that kind of job on one hand transcend the boundaries of age, gender, race, etc. but is it a worthwhile endeavor to grow and mature as an individual? to be skilled enough in battling with the challenges of the years to come?

indeed, the call center industry has been a source of big revenues for the government, but until when? we have to be realistic and sound in terms of setting out priorities to attain development. this country will not move forward if we will only hone telemarketers, and telephone operators. development is not defined by a mere increase in revenues, more jobs - it's about equity in all aspects - generation of sustainable jobs, infastructure, good governance, and quality life.

let my vagina talk

Let V-talk

For reasons that have never been entirely clear, the majority of power, wealth and social resources in the world seem to accrue to human born with penises. The unlucky penisless class had been left to either scramble over the remaining crumbs or cosy up to the penis-bearers hoping for favourable treatment.

As a self confessed individual, belonging to the penisless class have chosen to relate my anguish by letting my vagina speak. If my vagina could talk, what would she tell the world? my vagina says, “I’m alone in here, never been examined and checked if an infection is already sprouting. My master, yes my master (allow me to call her my Master, for once let me rule my language eventhough such word is only referred to men) could not look at me because her society tells her not to. It is uncouth of her if she would do such thing.

She can’t even say my name, unless there is some academic or intellectual discussion on call, because in her society, if you’re going to utter such word in a regular conversation, my name, you probably would be branded as ill-mannered, immoral. Just try shouting it (especially, my name in local dialect), and the people around you will look at you as if you are a leper.

As if I am not a part of her body, but I am just like any part of her body, like her nose, her hands, just that I am hidden. And her society continuously keeps me from being explored.

Her society mystifies me by using metaphors to call me flower, yours, hers, “hiyas,” forest, cave, cunt, vee and so many callnames. Do you think I am happy with that? I have so many identities that sometimes I no longer recognize myself.

But I also want to matter! How can I? If my master doesn’t even know about me, how?

I know she cares about me; she is just so shy to deal with me. How would her society react about it? What would the church say about it? That she has been a sinner? They don’t even support about contraceptives that at least would keep me from being harm by STDs, and pregnancy that puts my master’s life at risk.

Don’t they know that women are more prone to be infected with HIV, especially the young because our anatomical structure make us much more vulnerable since body fluids are retained inside us, rough sex tears skin tissue that heightens the probability of being infected? What would one expect from a society where women are disempowered to negotiate for sex, that they cannot even ask their partners to use condom?

I know I am complicated, just like how my external make up is that my master is not even aware of.

Sometimes people say that my master is a nagger because she has 2 mouths. How dare they say such thing? Do these people know how voiceless I am, and my master even? Her voice doesn’t even matter to an ordinary individual, because she is just a woman – just a woman.

As a matter of fact words do not belong to women. Just take a peek at any literature; from the time people were sent to school they have been taught that the word “men” meant everybody.

How can it mean everybody when women cannot even see themselves there? To speak for women is a test of silence.

There is an enormous ignorance about women’s realities in our society; women suffer from a frightening lack of clarity about who they really are. If ever there can be a collective recognition of certain realities that are female, it can still be hampered, diverted, and diluted by a masculine presence.

Do these people know the root why a handful member of her species nags? With all the load of work assigned to her at home that limits her social network – thus preventing her to learn new things, to be acquainted with issues boggling the world – what do you think a woman will do if she doesn’t have time for herself?

Of course she nags for a cause, maybe her husband treats her as a nobody, or just keep on doing things that irritates her like leaving the comfort room messy, squeezing the toothpaste in the middle, maybe her children are neglecting their studies, leaving their room messy, leaving the dining table unclean, etc.

With the repetitive work she does everyday, do you expect her to just smile and thank you all because you have given her those loads of work at home? What more is the mother who has career, still the obligation to manage the home is assigned to her. She experiences multiple burden because of the double standard society we have.

Now tell me, how can she attend to her own needs? Her everyday struggle with male species is really something to be fought. Have you all experience being whistled at even if you are wearing a decent outfit? Do men experience being stared at as if they’re going to swallow you whole?

And when she rode public utility vehicles, they would push you to the limits of the seat because they wanted to sit-squat as if they are the only ones paying fare. Do you know how difficult it is to be squeezed inside because you can’t sit-squat because you’re a woman?

What about my master’s portrayal on TV, magazines, tabloids, billboards? As always they are depicted as sex objects. One would see always a woman in bikini suits in commercials of liquors, cigars, even an appliance, shampoo, soaps, or any product. There will always be an element of beauty, a sexy body to be gawked at, by men of course.

The mainstream gobbles everything compelling to its maw and sells it back to the consumer reshaped, neatly packaged and demanding that one should buy, buy and buy.

Of course, the consumers continuously patronize this propaganda – which in turn reinforces the sad realities faced by women.

That they are mere objects who should always look beautiful for the eyes of men; that they are just properties of men; and in later part of their lives they will eventually subdue to the demands of men who will eventually own them.

But my master is not a mere property; she is a human being who has every right to be respected in whatever choice she makes for herself. Her opinion matters especially on things that truly concern her body.

What’s wrong with women looking at their genitalia and check it up for irregularities, or discovering what particularly would make her happy?

What’s wrong with choosing a life apart from the norm dictated by the society – if this truly makes her happy?

What’s wrong with saying what she really feels? Isn’t it that every person has the right to express what is inside him or her? What more can I say?”

Surprisingly, given the obvious inequities in penis distribution among the population, to date there has been no large-scale armed struggle to overthrow the penis bearing class.

Incidents of spontaneous violence aside (the occasional castration or murder), reformism rather than revolution has been the primary mode of confronting this historic injustice.

Social reforms and education have indeed made certain inroads toward improving the lot of non-penised, but having or not having one remains a primary predictor of social pre-requisites, life experiences – even some say psychology and character.

Truly my vagina has issues that coincide with realities that only a woman experiences. Why not, it’s a woman’s identity. My vagina is an epitome of myself.

steel guards

sbarro;glorietta; 23May'03STEEL

GUARDSHard.Strong.Equipped.ALways reminds me to stop when things no longer adhere to my principles.
